Did you know that Doxacon is a family friendly convention? We’re happy to announce that our popular a teen track is returning to Doxacon DC this year. Get excited, because we were able to get YA author Rosamund Hodge, writer of the NYT bestseller Cruel Beauty, as one of our teen track speakers. Rosamund has a BA in English from the University of Dallas and a MS in Medieval English from Oxford, and she now lives in Seattle where she writes young adult fantasy novels. Her talk is "Loving the Enemy."

"Falling in love with a monster--even a villain--has long been a popular romantic trope, from fairy tales like Beauty and the Beast to modern YA novels. Yet these stories are often criticized for promoting abuse or Stockhom Syndrome.

Meanwhile, Christians have loved pagan mythology--and written stories inspired by it--for two thousand years. But for just as long, Christians have feared that these stories are a slippery slope, from Alcuin of York demanding "What hath Ingeld to do with Christ?" to parents trying to stop their children reading Harry Potter.

These sound like two seprate issues, and yet at heart they're the same: the fear that loving what is monstrous, or wrong, or simply "other" will destroy us. How can we write stories about loving our enemies, without compromising our beliefs?"

Doxacon DC is taking taking place on August 18 & 19 at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Check out the full list of our speakers and register now for early bird pricing before it expires on June 1.  http://doxacon.brownpapertickets.com/
